I volunteered with Hedie on a suicide prevention network for the last few years. She was a long time member of the group and clearly cared deeply for that work and for people who struggled with suicide and suicide loss. She was fierce in sharing her experience and ideas and had a lot of knowledge to share. I was fortunate to get to build some connection with Hedie over the few years that we worked together. In spite of her physical absence from the network, I believe her dedicated and fearless spirit will continue to be there with us for many years to come. - Posted by: Curt Sparkes (Colleague and friend) on: Jun 22, 2026

I met Hedie in the fall of 2025 when I began working with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. She had been a long time volunteer for our organization, and other arts orgs in the city. I loved her dedication to volunteerism, her passion for local arts, and how she wasn't shy to share her opinion! She had incredible style too. Reading more about her work in health care is inspiring. Such a loss to our arts and culture community. Condolences to all whom knew her. - Posted by: Natanielle Felicitas (Colleague) on: Jun 22, 2026

At the recent 60th year Alumnae Dinner almost everyone asked "Where's Hedie?" we were the largest group of attendee's that night of June 4th. And the next day at the luncheon, same thing again. I hope she heard that one of the classmates had gone looking for her. Although I did not know her personally through all these years, I kept track of her through the newsletter. I could not believe what she did with her life. She was doing something ALL her life and helping others - she lived Community - I have always admired her search for knowledge, her courage, strength, persistence in whatever she did - work or travel. I send my sympathy to all her family and all who knew this wonder woman. May you rest in peace, Hedie. Sheilah Bissett, Calgary - Posted by: Sheilah Bissett (nursing class 1966) on: Jun 20, 2026
